Humane Society Helping Pets To Run On Treadmill During Cold Weather

Published Date: January 22nd, 2013

Cold weather not only affect humans, it is a tough season for pets also whose fur coats can't stand up to this cold. Eventualy the treadmill is extra busy now a days at the Humane Society of West Michigan in Walker.

Humane Society workers put more efforts to make these pets especially younger dogs, to run them on the machine so they can get in their daily exercise in this cold weather outside.

Lyndsey Kubik, an enrichment specialist at the Humane Society told that as people aren't spending a lot of time outside in cold weather, most dogs aren't doing their daily exercise. This is great, especially in the winter months when we have dogs that are outside for two minutes and they're already lifting their paws because it's painful.

Humane society employees say it is possible to train your dog to run on a treadmill, with the proper research but not every dog likes it.

Humane society also suggest some other ways to keep your pet safe during cold weather such as coats or sweaters for short-haired dogs, never leave pet alone in a car, make sure pet has a warm place to sleep.
